Callsign History

Burnie Dodge K2GJY put together the first repeater in 1968. At some point the call changed to WA2UWR and in 1970 was changed to W2AKR as a tribute to Caroll Anderese W2AKR. He was the Bergen County Civil Defense director in the early 60's. Around 1972 we got the call WR2ADV as the FCC required repeaters to have specific ID's. The FCC changed that rule and we went back to W2AKR as a memorial. Our 440 repeater in Franklin Lakes came on about 1971 with the call K2GCL and after Bob's passing became a memorial call in his honor. (W2HP recollections)
